Project 1:
Why I Write
This project was modeled after essays of the same name written by George Orwell and Joan Didion, and designed to get us thinking about who we are as writers, the reasons we write, etc. I found in writing mine that a lot of my reasons involve overcoming my past self, which was something I didn't entirely expect, but there you go.
Some of the writing I did in order to "lay the groundwork" for this piece included a writer's manifesto, a list of bold, writerly proclamations, and a first draft of the assignment. If you're interested in seeing the evolution of this project, check out the PDF links to each below.
